It is an exciting time at the Exploration Station as we are working on a new master plan for the facility concentrating heavily on updating our exhibits. As you might already be aware, we have been at our current facility on the Perry Farm Park for over 11 years now and a lot of our exhibits need replacing and updating. We will still keep some of the favorite exhibits like our 2-story castle, while others like our messy little water table will more than likely need to be replaced. These changes and replacements are unfortunately very expensive and will take a lot of time to complete. We try our very best to bring your the highest quality of exhibits on a very low budget but professionally built exhibits can be very costly. With the slow economy and a lack of state grant funds, the Exploration Station is in need of funds to complete these badly needed improvements. With that in mind, we at the museum are sending out a call for help. Help us keep the children's museum a fun, hands-on and interactive place for children to learn!
Monetary donations are always welcome and if you have a business is looking to sponsor a new exhibit please get in touch with Sarah Winkel, the general manager at (815) 933-9905.
If you are interested in making an in kind donation please call (815) 933-9905 ext 2 or send an email.
Items that are on my "wish list" at the museum include:
Prince/princess/king/queen dress-up clothes
Art Studio Supplies
Dinosaur/prehistoric displays and replicas
Kids Musical Instruments
Pet Supplies like guinea pig/rabbit chew toys, drift wood logs, bird toys, and other items to spruce up our live animal exhibit.
We are also accepting animal donations to replace our chinchilla who recently past away due to kidney trouble. We are looking for a chinchilla, degu or sugar glider for the animal room. (We are not accepting rabbits or guinea pigs at this time as we have multiple at the museum) If you are interested donating exhibit supplies or a live animal please give the museum a call!
If anyone has any experience with creating exhibits, displays or carpentry skills that would be interested in volunteering we could use an extra hand especially in late August and early September during our annual shutdown.
Thank You in advance for your help!
